Critical Infrastructure Security Showdown 2025
This is my short report from the Critical Infrastructure Security Showdown 2025 CTF exercise.
“Critical Infrastructure Security Showdown 2025 (CISS 2025) is a premier and one-of-its-kind cyber exercise in operational technology. This international exercise is held entirely remotely and opened to invited international participants. CISS 2025 is sponsored by the Cyber Security Agency of Singapore and co-organised with the Digital and Intelligence Service, Singapore.”
The tasks of the competition consisted of, among other things, electrical and water treatment, water distribution systems, all the way to ship and mobile network systems. There were also tasks related to steganography and various file extensions. This year there was a particularly large number of .pcap (packet capture) files to analyze.
Team TuAMK Goblins
Our team TuAMK Goblins consisted of more or less skilled, but enthusiastic students from Turku University of Applied Sciences. This year the composition was slightly different than the previous year when we placed 13th. Now the team performed well, even though at first we weren’t in the top ten, but after the final scoring, the organizers announced that we had also qualified for the upcoming final stage.
It was an honor to learn new things from the more skilled members than me and also to celebrate their successes. Kudos to them!
